Huge Fire Burns A Pottstown Restaurant.

Crews are battling a pretty intense fire at Jerry's Fried and Rotisserie Chicken in Pottstown. It started after 8 tonight at the restaurant on Shoemaker Road- crews on the scene tell us there were employees inside the store but it doesn't seem as though anyone was hurt in the fire. Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof of the business to fight the flames. . more

She went from being a science teacher to changing the way

“Do you know how the Chinese make chicken lollipops?" he asked me. “Come into the kitchen and I'll show you." If you are Danny Kaye, you can walk into a restaurant's busy kitchen unannounced and ask someone to give you a chicken thigh and a knife. He loosened the skin at the knob end of the bone, scraped the flesh upward to leave the bone clean, and turned the skin inside out over the thick part of the drumstick. “There! You now have a chicken lollipop ready for frying. Let me know if you come to California," Danny said. “I'll make you a Chinese dinner."

Open Question: Chicken Broccoli Casserole recipe question?

I found a recipe I'd love to try ... it's as follows: INGREDIENTS 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves 1 pound broccoli florets, cooked 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 1 can condensed cream of chicken soup 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese 1 cup bread crumbs DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Boil chicken until tender and shred or cut into bite size pieces. Meanwhile, steam broccoli until crisp but tender. In a small bowl mix together the soups and season to taste. Set aside. In a 9x13 inch baking dish layer the chicken, broccoli, soup mixture, and cheese. Sprinkle bread crumbs over the top with additional cheese and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. MY QUESTION is ... do you think it would taste okay if I used a broccoli and cauliflower mix in there instead of just broccoli?? I don't eat cauliflower but everyone that is coming from dinner LOVES it. I just wasnt sure if the two shouldnt go together in a casserole or if it would be ok. If I'm using frozen mixed veggies, are you suggesting that I only steam them til they are partially cooked???  more

Voting Question: What to make for dinner?

I'm cooking for me and the girlfriend, and I'm not sure what to make or what to have as side dishes. I'd like to make something kind of cheap, but I still want it to taste great. I'd also like to use boneless/skinless chicken breasts. I was thinking about making: 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts 1/3 c. Italian dressing (T. Marzetti's is recommended) 1 clove garlic (chopped) 3/4 tbsp mustard powder 3/4 tbsp honey 2 tsp salt Preheat oven to 400F. Place Chicken in a glass casserole dish that has a cover. 1. Sprinkle salt over chicken. 2. Pour italian dressing over chicken. 3. Scatter garlic over chicken. 4. Sprinkle mustard powder over chicken. 5. Drizzle Honey over chicken. 6. Cover casserole dish and bake for 1 hour or until chicken is cooked through. Very simple (and tastes great), but I'm totally open to other suggestions. I'm 100% open to other ideas (I'm not sure how much she likes mustard), as long as the recipe doesn't include mushrooms. So... help me decide a main dish and a side or two!!  more

Resolved Question: How come nothing ever bakes right for me?

Also, I moved over the summer, so now it's a completely different oven. Example I made Tyler Florence ultimate Roast Chicken. Supposed to cook 25 minutes, then 25 minutes more. i have cooked it for TWO AND A HALF HOURS and the breasts are raw. this is freaking me out. Do the laws of physics not apply to me???  more

Resolved Question: Turkey recipe ideas - for a picky husband who doesn't like turkey & I'm trying to have us eat healthier?

I have been buying the honeysuckle 99% fat free turkey breast cuts and making them for some dinners. The problem is my husband doesn't like it. He is a big hamburger and anything pork related guy. He doesn't like steak and isn't a chicken or poultry lover. We don't love fish- have it once in a while. I am the person who cooks dinners most often and I've been really trying to choose healthier dinners--- the problem is I barely get him to like the chicken (I usually have to fry it and make gravy) so when I made some turkey the past few times he doesn't eat much of it and then tosses it. He says it's too dry. Well I bake it in the oven with a little seasoning and cover it. I like it just fine, but poultry is my fave--- does anyone have any yummy recipes out there that I can try using the turkey? Maybe like a turkey curry or something... I haven't a clue. Please, nothing with cheese though- I hate cheese! Hehe. Thanks to all who will answer!  more

Resolved Question: How long do you think this would need to bake?

So, I want to make terriakyi chicken skewers tomorrow night, I got the recipe from my friend, but she didn't tell me how long to cook/bake it for in the oven, generally you'd grill them, but it's way TOO cold to grill them. They are large hunks of chicken breast with soy sauce, brown sugar, olive oil, and salt and pepper on them, you shove them together on a skewer, I know ou'd probably cook at 350 but for how long?!?!?  more

Resolved Question: How do I keep boneless, skinless chicken breast tender and juicy while baking.?

Resolved Question: Chicken Piccata recipe using skinless boneless breasts in the oven?

I'm having a party for 20 people and I want to make lemon chicken or chicken picatta that gets baked in the oven. I am looking for a tried and true recipe using boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I want to bake it because that will be easier to time for when the guests arrive and the food will be hot when it's served. I like recipes that call for dredging the chicken in flour and searing it first, I think that gives a nice flavor. However, the recipes I'm finding in which you dredge the chicken are usually finished on the stove. Does anyone have a good recipe that meets this criteria or is there some master chef out there that can just make up the recipe and tell me how to do it??? Thanks!!  more

Resolved Question: What does your 10-30 month old eat?

I like to think that my 14 month old eats fairly healthy, but I;m not going to lie and pretend that she doesn't occasionally have a snack or meal that's not 100% nutritious. However, I can't help but shudder as I see toddlers being pushed around in strollers eating a bag of cheetos or chips and a big bottle of Kool-aid! That's nothing but sugar, sodium, and fat, and they're not even walking off the calories! I also don't think its right to deny your little one special treats and snacks like ice cream now and then. Its not gonna kill them. I'm curious to see what your kids (around 10-30 months but it doesn't really matter) eat! Be as brief or long winded as you like. Here's a sample of my 14 month old's menu: Breakfast Sliced bananas with wheat germ Multi grain waffles Canned fruit Multi-grain cheerios, regular cheerios, other cereal A whole apple, peeled Sliced fruit to dip in yogurt Graduates cereal bars Scrambled eggs Lunch or Dinner Baked sweet potato Baked pork chops Mashed potatos Steamed mixed veggies (peas, carrots, corn, butternut squash, green beans, lima beans) Corn tortillas and refried beans Chicken breast, sliced, breaded, and baked (a healthier alternative to chicken nuggets) to dip in ketchup, BBQ, or marinara sauce Wholewheat pasta (chopped spaghetti, or small shapes like penne and wagon wheels to pick up) in sauce with mini meatballs (ground beef or lean ground turkey) Rice and steamed veggies in a cheesy sauce Corn on the cob (lots of fun!) Gerber and Beechnut microwave meals for when you just don't have time Turkey w/ mustard, tuna, Simply JIF Peanut Butter & Jelly, sandwiches on multigrain bread cut into quarters Breadsticks to dip in marinara sauce Avocado Plain oatmeal with a little bit of brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and granola (no raisins, they're a choking hazard) Breaded chicken breast stuffed with mozarella and spinach and baked Slow-cooked pork shoulder, pulled into strips. This is very easy to eat and can be used for so many recipes such as sandwiches or seasoned mexican style on corn tortillas with guacamole. Flank steak roasted in the oven with veggies, potatos, and mushrooms Snacks Fruit to dip in yogurt Kashi TLC multigrain veggie crackers Kashi TLC multigrain cookies or cereal bars Quakers mini rice cakes (cheddar or apple cinnamon flavor) Low fat string cheese Lunchables JR. (comes with crackers, turkey, and mozzarella) Prunes (Be very careful not to eat too many! One a day is enough, but they have wonderful health properties) Instead of ice cream, try frozen yogurt Beverage Rice milk Danimals yogurt drinks Milk, a little nesquick powder, and a banana mixed in a blender (you can also add cheerios!) Orange juice, mixed fruit juice, or Juicy Juice Harvest Surprise fruit juice with carrot juice + 50% water Chamomile tea sweetened with orange juice instead of sugar and watered down (great for bed time!) Peppermint, lemon, and other herbal teas (make sure that they are normal herbs that are safe!) Hopefully we can get ideas and learn from each other!  more

Resolved Question: A very basic chicken cooking recipe?

Okay besides microwave things, brownies, and heat and eat pizzas, I've never cooked anything in my life. But I'm trying to be healthier. I have boneless skinless chicken breasts I want to bake tonight so. 1. How long do I leave them in the fridge to defrost? If I bring them straight home, can I cook them immediately? 2. Do I lay them in pan naked, or do I add tin foil first? My parents do that but I never understood why or if it was required. 3. How do I marinate it? I don't mind if it's plain, but is there something simple and low calorie I can get to flavor it up. 4. At what temp and how long do I cook it? I'd prefer it a little burned than possibly undercooked. Thank you, I am feeling so brave. = D  more

Resolved Question: How do you cook cats in the West Indies?

On my visit to the West Indies, I had the opportunity to try many dishes. One such dish was Baked Cats in Tomato Rosemary Sauce. Now, you may want to barf at the name like I did but after sampling a piece, I had two servings and if I was not full, would have gone for thirds. The chef at the restaurant did not want to give away the recipe but said if I help with the dishes, she would show me how she made it. I agreed and this is what took place. She gathered up white wine, chicken broth, tomatoes, sugar, fresh rosemary, heavy cream and green onions. When everything was set, she got a medium-size skillet and placed it over a medium-high heat. She then added the white whine (1/2 cup) and brought it to a boil then let it simmer for 5 minutes. Next, she added one can of chicken broth (approx 15oz), 1/2 cup diced tomatoes, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary and then brought it to a boil. As it began to boil, she then let it simmer for about 10 minutes. When it was time, she added the heavy cream (1/2 cup) and brought it to a boil once more for 5 minutes. You could smell the delicious aroma of the white wine and the onions over the kitchen. I grabbed two plates and then she put the catfish in and pour the tomato rosemary sauce over it. It was the best tatsting cats I have ever had. As we cleaned up the kitchen, she told me it can be used on baked or grilled chicken breast, cod, tilapia or orange roughy. ^_^  more

The recipe involved 1/4 cup parmesean cheese, 1 unprepared italian seasoning packet and possibly an egg to dip the chicken in before coating it. I know it didn't include breadcrumbs and here's where I'm stuck all the recipes I've been able to find online that seem close to this do. Does anyone know a recipe like this?  more

Resolved Question: is it safe to cook chicken in the soup base?

i'm making soup... i typically use precooked chicken, like leftover grilled or picked off of a baked chicken but i am looking at this recipe that calls for making the soup base then adding the raw chicken breasts to it, cook it, pull out the chicken and shred it then put it right back into the soup. is that a safe method for cooking/consuming chicken? sorry if this makes me seem a culinary incompetent... but i just need to be sure. thanks for your help! Wow!!! Thank you for the incredible responses. I'm off to make some soup!  more

Resolved Question: Is boneless fried chicken high in fat?

I always thought fried foods were so fatty, but searching sites like nutritiondata and recipe sites that provide nutritional info, it seems like boneless skinless chicken (breast) fried in flour, w/o any batter) contains like NO fat, or little more than when baked. Are those figures I'm finding accurate? How do you fry in cooking spray? I don't mean stir fry, in the photos there was a crispy flour coat.  more

Resolved Question: What is a healthy easy recipe for chicken breasts?

I need some ideas because my husband and I are trying to eat healthier and the dinners we used to make are either unhealthy or we are just sick of eating it. If there is anything easy like buying a certain marinade or spices at the store that would be great. Also, I only bake or grill.  more
