Seriously, how many of us have the nerve to claim we have enough foreign policy experience to be Vice President of the United States by virtue of the fact that we went to Sherkston this summer and brought back a case of Canadian beer? Isn't that a back-and-forth trade mission? Those frat boys from UB heading up to watch the Canadian ballet are on par with Henry Kissinger, I guess.

Resolved Question: Authentic over non-authentic dining, what if you can't tell?

Alright, so let's use, for comparison, Olive Garden and an authentic Italian restaurant. One is a chain restaurant, the other is an authentic interpretation of the Italian cuisine. Now, if you personally have never been to a real Italian place and have not given your taste buds the "training" to tell the difference, is it really worth it to pay for the more expensive place? If you enjoy the food at Olive Garden, is there a point to spending 20 dollars on 1 dish at an Italian restaurant, or do you think you won't get anything out of doing that? Also, what about portion size? Typically you have to wonder, the more expensive places tend to have smaller portions. Yet, what if you are the type of person like I am and need good portions to get full? (Interestingly enough I'm not fat despite this fact) Is it still worth it to go to the authentic place if you won't be full? Sure the food might be absolutely amazing, but what if you are left feeling hungry? So what are the real reasons anyone would have to go to the expensive place over the other if they enjoy the food at cheaper place just fine? People claim the reason for liking the chain place is ignorance of what real Italian food tastes like, but will they start hating the food at the cheaper place after tasting the real deal, or do you think they'll still enjoy it if they enjoyed it before? Opinions? Please answer all aspects of this question. more

I'm from LA, so I've lived off of and love LA Mexican food. Yea, LA Mexican food isn't AUTHENTIC because, well, it's not in Mexico. But after I moved to New York, all the supposed "authentic" Mexican restaurants taste like tex mex. I've also been to some awesome Latin American restaurants, but nothing ever hits the spot like LA Mexican food. We're staying at the Hilton LAX and they have free transportation to 3 places: 1. Manhattan Beach Pier 2. Manhattan Village 3. El Segundo Plaza So we are going to have to get dinner at one of these locations. Can someone recommend the best restaurant in one or all three of these locations? We'd like authentic Italian if possible, but we're open to anything that's safe (ie, no taco stands or hole in the wall joints since we have an international flight the next morning, don't want to take any chances.) Voting Question: Life after college, must be a curse?

Perhaps I am looking at all the wrong places, but does anyone else feel that life after college is hard, in terms of meeting new people and find that significant other. Here is a little about me: I am a 24 yrs old Chinese dude, 5'9", and I weight about 135lbs. I play tennis just about everyday, I play the piano, and enjoys simple activities such as simple dinner at an authentic Japaneses restaurant , or a quiet dvd movie at home. I recently started my own business, because I can't bare the idea of working for someone else and having to waste all the beautiful hours in the day in an office cubicle some where. However, for the life of me, I can not see to find that significant other ever since college, or school for that matter. I have never had trouble finding/meeting someone nice in school, and I am at a total lost as far as meeting nice girls are concerns. I go parties/lunges/bars/house parties/trips/ heck vegas too, and none of that has yield any results. Perhaps I am just looking at the wrong places, but I really don't know where else to look. Anyone got any ideas?? more

My husband is Mexican (born here in the states, but his parents came over from Mexico). We also have a 1 year old son, and I would like to start learning to make authentic mexican dishes for him and my son. I am White and can't cook very well (by can't, I mean I rarely cook anything from scratch), so the easier the better. I don't mind spicy foods, because my husband and my son both love spicy foods. I have asked his mother to help, but like most mexicans, they don't follow a recipe. They just know how to make it. Since I don't really cook very often, this makes it a bit difficult for me. His family is from the Northern Part of Mexico...near the border if that makes a difference. I want AUTHENTIC, so things that are actually prepared and eaten in Mexico. If I want Americanized I can look in a cook book or go to a Mexican restaurant here in Wisconsin. Thanks for your help. more

Italy, When I order the simplest pasta with tomato sauce I get a nice thinly coated pasta (no globs of sauce) Unlike when I order this in the US. i work part time at this japanese restaurant. there're this mom & daughter who used to come maybe 2 times a month. they usually eat like $20 total (which is pretty cheap for 2), and they always ask for BOWL of ginger and BOWL of ponzu (this special sauce). they think they can have ALL THE ginger & ponzu in this restaurant for free. so last time, i had to charge $1. and they complained like crazy. so i explained that this is not "all you can eat restaurant". and they stopped coming, which is really not a problem at all, and today, they showed up in our restaurant again! they stepped in, and 1st thing mom yelled "1st, i gotta tell you, you are the ONLY japanese restaurant who charges for ginger and ponzu!" i was like "well, i don't know which japanese restaurant you go to, but we use authentic japanese product, and we can't give you BOWL of ginger for free" so i only gave them maximum of free ginger i can. later, they ate all the ginger, and asked me "can i get a liiittle more without charging?" i was like OH MY GOD!! what da hell's your problem??!! you don't even have a buck?! i really don't want to see them again, (owner and other employee hate them too), what should i do? oh my god they're soooo cheap!! they don't even have $1?! more

Resolved Question: How do I make good Blue Mountain coffee?

Every time I go to Jamaica I drink Blue Mountain Coffee and bring some home with me. I always bring the ground stuff home, follow the directions, and still can't get it to taste like the restaurants. I've bought the brands that have that "certified" stamp that it's authentic. So, what's the secret? Is it that I have to use Jamaican water? Alright so I have been eating sushi for around 3 years. I love the Maki. Anyways when I do get sushi I go to restaurants like House of Hunaan and Kasai (Japanese restaurant that does only sushi, very well too :) Anyway one of my friends informed me I can get worms from sushi. Now I don't know if this is important but I don't eat sashimi or nagiri. How great are my chances of getting worms would you say. Kasai is extremely japanese authentic, and I have come to trust the chef at the sushi bar their. Am I going to be okay to continue eating it? Also I don't know if this makes a difference. The waitress once told me they fly their fish over from japan alive. Is that good or bad. Also I was just looking at reviews. Many consider this the best sushi restaurant in Ohio.
