Nigeria: Being Vigilant Consumers
The infiltration of Chinese cuisine into our culture in the name of globalisation should no longer be taken for granted. Seafood which is a popular dish in China was the subject of a food poisoning scandal in the United States. This same delicacy is available in the Chinese run food outlets. Do we wait until a fatality occurs before we insist on openness in the source of ingredients and condiments especially in the light of recent incidences? Delicacies laced with death are a no-no!
If the authorities raid the premises of indigenous food manufacturers why do we not apply the same standards to foreign outlets as well? The overall protection of citizenry from contaminated and harmful products ought to be more visible and vibrant. This by the way is not a call for a witch-hunt or hostility against foreign run food outlets. more
